I will retire from studying abroad and travel! The number of Japanese who visit the Philippines has increased.
Studying in the Philippines and Cebu Island have become especially popular these days. Many people want to learn English in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, and many people go to the nearby and cheap Philippines to study.
Studying in the Philippines is not particularly difficult, so there are many people who come without going through an agent. But if you don’t know the situation in the Philippines, you might unexpectedly encounter a refusal to leave the country at the departure airport!
One is that you cannot enter the Philippines with a one-way ticket.
Also, I would like to introduce a must-see visa run for Philippine students.
You cannot enter the Philippines with a one-way ticket.
If you are planning to travel to the Philippines or study abroad, did you know that you cannot enter the country with a one-way ticket when you enter the Philippines? Especially in the Philippines, prices are low and the climate is warm all year round, so many people come for a long time.
Also, after studying in the Philippines, many people go straight to Australia, or go around the country before returning to Japan.
In that case, some people might want to book a one-way ticket because they don’t know the return date.
If you get a one-way ticket and go to the airport on the day of departure and check in, you will be refused departure at the counter! In that case, all the tickets and hotel reservations will be wasted!
To avoid this, when you enter the Philippines, be sure to book a round-trip or international ticket.
The Philippines is allowed to enter without a visa for a stay of less than 30 days.
As of February 2017, Japanese nationals can travel to the Philippines without a visa for up to 30 days.
Also, there are pros and cons, but the condition is that the passport is valid for more than 6 months. (There are also people who can go without 6 months. However, I think it depends on the staff, so please make sure that it is more than 6 months.)
If you stay more than 30 days, you can extend your visa in the Philippines. You can apply at the Philippine Embassy in Japan in advance, but I recommend you to get it there because it is very troublesome.
Please refer to this article to renew your tourist visa in Cebu.
Easy to make by yourself! How to Extend a Tourist Visa for 30 Days or More on Cebu Mactan Island
Visa Extension on Cebu Island, Philippines (city)! Procedures at immigration (Immigration)
There are two places, Mactan Island with the airport and Cebu City. For your information, the school will take care of the procedures for those who are studying abroad, so you don’t have to do it by yourself.
Bizaran is a must-see for international students.
A visa run is a way of avoiding payment of a visa by going to a neighboring country and then returning to the Philippines. LCC has developed from the Philippines to the neighboring countries, so you can travel to the neighboring countries for about the amount of visa payment.
More and more foreign students are going to travel to neighboring countries on Saturdays and Sundays rather than paying for a visa.
If your stay is more than 2 months but less than 3 months, is VISA run good?
Regarding the visa renewal fee, it is 3130 P for the 1st month and 7590 P for the 2nd month. The reason for the sudden increase in the second month is that if you stay for more than two months, you will have to pay more to get an I-CARD.
In other words, if you finish your study abroad or travel within 3 months, I-CARD is valid for 1 year, so you honestly don’t need it. But it has to be made. It costs about 10,000 yen.
Visa Run Method
If you stay for more than 60 days, you have to leave the Philippines and go to a 3rd country within 60 days because there is a 2 month fee. If you are a foreign student, be sure to tell the staff in advance when you do a visa run. Because I need to get a passport and a leave permit.
The most popular destinations on VISA RAN are Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong. These go at a low price by LCC such as Cebu Pacific Airlines. If everything goes well, you should be able to get a round-trip ticket for less than 8000 P, the visa fee for the 2nd month.
Of course, you have to stay at a hotel, and there are various expenses such as transportation and food expenses, so I can’t afford to stay within the visa fee. However, there are many people who would rather go on a trip than disappear with the visa fee.
If you are going on a VISA RAN trip, I recommend going with more than one person. It’s rather expensive for one person.
Precautions for VISA Run
If you go to a third country for a visa run, you can’t go back to the Philippines by one-way ticket. In the case of a visa run, you can do it only if you have a return ticket to Japan properly or if you have an abandoned ticket and it is still valid.
I carelessly bought a discarded ticket before leaving the country, but it was expired! Please try to buy a plane ticket in a planned manner so as not to cause a disaster.
A loophole in cases where the date of return is unknown due to study abroad or long-term stay
I explained at the beginning that you cannot enter the Philippines with a one-way ticket. If you have no choice but to buy a return ticket, it is almost impossible to cancel or change it in case of Cebu Pacific Airlines. (can hardly get through) Vanilla Air can’t be changed by rank such as Waku Waku Vanilla.
But it’s also very expensive to buy a changeable ticket. What if … doesn’t necessarily return to Japan? Here’s the solution.
About Discard Tickets
There is a word called discard ticket. This means that you buy a plane ticket and throw it away without actually boarding. By doing so, you can enter Japan because you have a ticket from the Philippines to Japan or a third country.
Also, this ticket is supposed to be thrown away, so you can buy a new ticket when you need to leave the Philippines.
But some of you may be wondering. “It’s a shame to throw it away! and. Even if it’s a plane ticket, it’s pretty expensive, isn’t it?” he said.
But this throwing away ticket is a trick that Philippines can do.
How to discard tickets
❶ I bought a one-way ticket from Narita to Cebu. You can buy a return ticket in Japan or a third country. Moreover, you can return from Manila to a third country in the same country, not from Cebu.
❷ The airline plans to buy low-cost tickets from Manila to Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong. You don’t need a ticket from Cebu to Manila. Only one way from Manila to Singapore is OK.
❸ When you check in in Japan, you will be asked to show your return ticket, so you can show the e-ticket you bought at a bargain price from Manila to Singapore.
This is the recommended discarded ticket!
Is it expensive from Manila to Singapore? If you think so, it’s surprisingly cheap. I have once entered Cebu with a disposable ticket. At that time I got a ticket from Manila to Singapore and it cost 5000 yen one way.
The ticket from Cebu to Japan costs more than 10,000 yen no matter how hard you try. Even Cebu Pacific usually costs about 20,000 yen. So, if you don’t know the date and time of your return, you can use these discarded tickets to enter the country.
By the way, you can cancel it properly or you don’t have to do anything.
Then, I will introduce a recommended throwing away ticket.
❶ Cebu to Taipei 2000 php
❷ Manila to Singapore 3200 php with AirAsia
❸ Cebu to Taipei 1800 php
Like this! Of course, the price varies depending on the season and timing, but you can go there at this price. Especially when they have a sale in Cebu Pacific.
From Cebu to Taipei it is about 1800 points (4000 yen).
It’s a throw away ticket, so please book it on the cheapest day and time. You can throw away the ticket at any time, but you should get it within 3 months after you leave Japan. If it’s too long, people will suspect it.
If you want to see the sale in Cebu Pacific, it is more economical to select the Philippines (English) instead of the Japanese version. We have regular sales, so let’s check.
Recently, visa running problems have become serious in Thailand and other countries, so visa running is prohibited, but it’s okay in the Philippines. Many people use discarded tickets or go to neighboring countries to get a visa and return.
If you are planning to go to the Philippines but don’t know when you will return to your country, or if you plan on going on a tour after studying abroad, please use the Throwaway Ticket.
If you are leaving the Philippines within 3 months for studying abroad, you can renew your visa, but I also recommend VISA RAN. Since you are learning English, please try to use English in Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan and other places with your fellow foreign students.
I don’t often go abroad, so I think it will be a good stimulus.
